She will be a senior this year and she really didn't need a lot. We picked up a couple of notebooks, paper, pens, and pencils. She wanted a new pencil bag but could not find one that she liked. So, I offered to make her one. Now, I am always offering to make things for her but I am very guilty of not being fast about it. I promised that I would have a pencil case made for her before the start of school. So we headed over to the fabric store where she picked out the fabric and zipper. And I searched online for a pattern.
I googled something like zippered pouch tutorial and found a blog post on one of my favorite web sites, Sew Mama Sew. The post lead to a free class offered on Craftsy. So of course I signed up for the class and printed the pattern and today I made this:

The zipper is orange (which is her favorite color) matches the bird's beak.
Here is the inside:

We had to choose a word for a "theme". I picked MERRY. Here is what I sent:

We received just a light dusting of what looked like a pretty big storm that hit just north of us but it was enough to cancel school today. And BRRRR its cold outside. However, my the end of the week, the highs are suppose to be near 60. Go figure!Tammy "SweetT"http://www.blogger.com/profile/12526552828251116437noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4191026240464006656.post-33706083105381251882012-01-02T19:23:00.003-05:002012-01-02T19:37:17.159-05:00ResolutionsLast year at this time, I posted a couple of resolutions. So I thought before I made any new ones for 2012, I thought I would check on how I did in 2011...

My resolutions were:

1. Craft more. Make more time to sew and scrapbook. I completed one quilt, made several aprons, and attended 2 scrapbook retreats. I didn't craft as much as I would have liked but I would say I did ok on the resolution.

2. Read more. I used to read all the time and I just don't anymore and I miss it.
Need to work on this one. I did go through several periods were I did a lot of reading but during the last couple of months, hardly read at all.

3. Learn to say no. Did great here - don't think I did anything that I didn't really want to do.

4. Make better use of my time. Not sure about this either.

5. Get healthier. Need to get back to exercising. Did AWESOME here! After the doctor yelled at me in March for gaining 8 more pounds over the winter months, I hit it hard and along with my husband, we started the 17 Day Diet. I took off 25 pounds and my husband took off 40. We started mountain biking and joined a gym. I went from a size 12 to a size 4 in pants and am off of my blood pressure meds.

6. Get rid of the clutter. Work in progress but made a dent.

7. And blog more. FAILED!!!

So now, off to work on my 2012 list.
Happy New Year!Tammy "SweetT"http://www.blogger.com/profile/12526552828251116437noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4191026240464006656.post-59905160746909962552012-01-01T20:37:00.002-05:002012-01-01T20:39:44.046-05:00New Years 2012<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjqmRQ2unmCzovhe-Sa6n8TaRwmxxXgHzsRca0-l5tjIJx6mvTVcFpEpY_aQ4NE04Fzd9Gzykb6XHq86JAFaXduPh547HqnHKNx_Kw7Qo8lLTeO2IN8o7TB700v4oLbWjhfxsrGvbJ1V4/s320/duponthike010112.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5692843100590756866" />
Cliff, Courtney, and I started the new year right with a hike in nearby DuPont forest. I like peppermint candy canes, Andes mints, and peanut butter cups, pretzel and peanut M&M's.

9. What is your favorite holiday treat? Cookies and fudge. I like making cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning. Chai tea lattes remind me of Chritmas.

10. Describe your favorite holiday tradition. Making cookies and putting up the tree.

11. Did you believe in Santa as a child? I still do!

12. When do you open presents? We open one on Christmas Eve and the rest Christmas morning.

13. Do you put up a tree and when? If not, how do you celebrate? We do put up a tree. We put on up usually after Thanksgiving or the beginning of December. Often we travel for Thanksgiving and so its usually the following weekend.

14. Does your tree have a theme? Not really. Some homemade. Some received as gifts. But just about every ornament has a memory or story behind it.

15. What has been your favorite gift to give? To receive? My favorite gift that I EVER received was my Baby Girl, Courtney Jo, that was born on December 25, 1995. That's right, she was born on Christmas Day. She will be 16 this year and is the greatest gift that I have ever received.
I can't think of what my favorite gift to give was. I enjoy making gifts such as quilts or even as simple as a pair of flannel pj's. I just know I LOVE finding that perfect gift for Courtney or my husband, Cliff and seeing the happiness when they receive it. For example, several years ago, Courtney had wanted an American Girl but didn't think she would get one because they are so expensive. I received so much pleasure seeing her so happy when she opened the doll Christmas morning.

I hope that helps you learn a little more about me.
Merry Christmas!Tammy "SweetT"http://www.blogger.com/profile/12526552828251116437noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4191026240464006656.post-73413339711106061172011-09-23T21:02:00.001-04:002011-09-23T21:03:23.248-04:00I FailSo, its September 23rd - the first day of fall and I haven't posted since January - I so FAIL!!!Tammy "SweetT"http://www.blogger.com/profile/12526552828251116437noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4191026240464006656.post-79903255427579505512011-01-09T22:20:00.001-05:002011-01-09T22:21:45.720-05:00New Flirty Apron Swap

I can't wait to get my partner and start sewing!Tammy "SweetT"http://www.blogger.com/profile/12526552828251116437noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4191026240464006656.post-29274648725105291312011-01-09T09:35:00.001-05:002011-01-10T09:47:32.900-05:00The Simple Womans Daybook - Sunday, January 9,2011FOR TODAY
Outside my window...cold, it looks like snow is on the way!
I am thinking...that I should be crafting.
I am thankful for...my health.
From the kitchen...chili.
I am wearing...sweats.
I am creating...memories.
I am going...no where.
I am reading...Flat Creek by Jim Ball.
I am hoping...that it doesn't snow.
I am hearing...my puppy's squeaky toy.
Around the house...things are quiet and restful.
One of my favorite things...peppermint tea.
A few plans for the rest of the week: work, baking bread.
Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

I love these girls!

To learn more or to read other daybooks, please visit The Simple Womans Daybook.Tammy "SweetT"http://www.blogger.com/profile/12526552828251116437noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4191026240464006656.post-56261026391042843482011-01-01T19:05:00.002-05:002011-01-01T19:22:18.795-05:00Happy New YearHappy New Year ya'll!

It's a new year and I'm all about the "New You" this year. Yes, I know its cliche but I NEED it. I started by getting a totally new haircut yesterday. Over the past couple of years, I had let my hair grow back long like it was in high school and college. I had gotten it cut when I became a mom 15 years ago and had kept it shoulder length. Anyway, it had gotten long and I had gotten tired of it so yesterday, I had it all cut off - into a cute, sassy bob.

Anyway, thought I would just post a few resolutions. Maybe by posting - I will stick with them. Here goes...

1. Craft more. Make more time to sew and scrapbook.
2. Read more. I used to read all the time and I just don't anymore and I miss it.
3. Learn to say no.
4. Make better use of my time.
5. Get healthier. Need to get back to exercising.
6. Get rid of the clutter.
7. And blog more.

And that's it. How about you?

Hope everyone had a WONDERFUL New Year!!!Tammy "SweetT"http://www.blogger.com/profile/12526552828251116437noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4191026240464006656.post-25753913262078015132010-12-06T22:09:00.000-05:002010-12-06T22:10:11.388-05:00Flirty Apron Swap 13Check out the aprons that I sent and received in Shawnee's latest swap.Tammy "SweetT"http://www.blogger.com/profile/12526552828251116437noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4191026240464006656.post-68514331579252943542010-07-06T21:31:00.003-04:002010-07-06T21:42:11.968-04:00Daughter's Quilt CompletedWay back in July 2008, I took a class and started making a quilt for my daughter.
So almost 2 years later, she informed me that she wanted to take it to camp with her this year. I had gotten as far as partially quilting it and had just set it aside. Anyway, during the last couple of weeks, I spent every spare minute working on it - during my lunch breaks, before bed, etc. And I finished it one week ago - last Tuesday, just in time for her to take it to camp on Wednesday.
Here it is. As you can see, Bueller likes it.

And DD wrapped up in it...

Notice the bear tucked behind her head - she has had that bear since she was about 4 to 6 weeks old and has slept with it ever since and she's 14.Tammy "SweetT"http://www.blogger.com/profile/12526552828251116437noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4191026240464006656.post-22977663435558087912010-07-05T19:44:00.003-04:002010-07-05T19:47:13.349-04:00Tailgate MarketI am really trying to eat fresh and local so I got up early on Saturday to hit our local tailgate market. I've been on vacation since Friday - we were suppose to visit my sister and her family but were snowed in. So, its been several days of sleeping in late and doing a whole lot of nothing. Today we ventured out to do a little grocery shopping and when we arrived back home, I had not one but two packages waiting on my doorstep.
The first package was my from my White Christmas Flirty Apron Swap partner, Donna. I received this awesome apron:

and all these goodies:
.
I also received my Crafting with Friends ornament swap ornament:

Isn't it cute!Tammy "SweetT"http://www.blogger.com/profile/12526552828251116437noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4191026240464006656.post-3159944877588303782009-12-19T11:09:00.003-05:002009-12-19T11:22:15.107-05:00SNOW!We live in the mountains of North Carolina but closer to the SC line and very seldom do we get any snow - maybe a couple of light snowfalls each year, most often just flurries. And usually we get an ice storm or two. However, yesterday we were hit with a storm that left the area covered in a white blanket. We were actually suppose to leave to go to my sister's who lives on the east coast of NC. We travelled about 15 miles from the house by interstate and decided it wasn't worth the risk. After we got back home, my husband and daughter decided they were going outside to play. After about 15 minutes they asked me to go for a walk with them. Now, I walk a lot and trying to get them to go with me is like pulling teeth so when they asked, I couldn't say no. So, I donned one of my husband's motorcycle wind suits, which by the way is a men's 3X. I know I looked ridiculous but it kept me warm and dry. And off we went to see the neighborhood. Here we are, my daughter is on the left.
Tammy "SweetT"http://www.blogger.com/profile/12526552828251116437noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4191026240464006656.post-16565342599722461772009-12-16T18:48:00.003-05:002009-12-16T19:12:41.188-05:00BrewsterBrewster, my Yorkie-Poo Baby was laid to rest today. He had been sick for quite a while and he had issues with his hips. It was the toughest decision that we have ever had to make but I know now that he is in no pain.

I found this poem and thought I would share it in Brewster's honor.

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain does keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done
for this - the last battle -can't be won.

You will be sad I understand
But don't let grief then stay your hand.
For on this day, more than the rest
Your love and friendship must stand the test.

We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.

Take me to where my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end.
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.

Don't grieve that it must now be you
Who has to decide this thing to do.
We've been so close - we two -these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

(author unknown)

Here are a few photos that I would like to share.
This one is from Halloween 2008:

Brewster taking a nap:

and Brewster with my other favorite man:
Tammy "SweetT"http://www.blogger.com/profile/12526552828251116437noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4191026240464006656.post-80939796167204826502009-12-09T22:25:00.000-05:002009-12-09T22:26:59.106-05:00White Christmas Flirty Apron SwapI participated in the White Christmas Flirty Apron Swap and completed my apron this past weekend.
